Ready-Set–Snow

We got the bright idea to take the kids on a winter vacation. Living in the great southwest, our children had never seen snow. Since it is fairly warm year round without winter precipitation, we thought it would be fun to pack up the family and go to the mountains and enjoy a couple of days of doing cold weather and snow filled activities. On the agenda, we wanted to go sleigh riding and make snowmen. Of course, we also wanted to participate in an old fashion snow ball fight.

As I started packing I realized quickly that our “winter coats” probably wouldn’t keep the kids warm in snow laden areas. Our fleece and sweatshirt lined coats needed to be replaced with kids snowboard jackets. Youth snowboard gear substituted our normal winter clothes of sweatpants and sweaters. We needed clothes that would insulate us from the wind and snow. The kids’ jeans had to be covered with kids ski pants to keep them dry and comfortable.

Getting ready for our winter vacation did require an apparel upgrade. Since we can wear shorts and t-shirts nine months out of the year, we needed to rethink packing for a vacation centered on snow.
