Short and Tough – A Friend’s Quest to Become Darker
By Conus on May 20, 2008 in Society
I had this friend back in high school that always wanted to be one of the toughest kids on the block. He was a big guy, although short, with a great deal of muscle and solid bone structure. But he was not the bravest of characters even though he could probably bench press 3 people at once. So he tried to make himself a little more intimidating aesthetically so people would leave him alone.
He started out by wearing all black, usually clothes that gave the impression of being cheap (though they probably cost a ridiculous amount of money). Eventually he added a spiked collar and a spiked bracelet.
When he turned 18, he came up with a few tattoo designs with which he decorated himself. He added some skull tattoos where the one of the skulls was on fire, but the flames were blue and green. He then added dragon tattoos across his arm, clearly visible with the way he wore his sleeves.
His final outfit decoration was black nail polish and eyeliner. He was not Goth by any means, he just wanted people to be intimidated by his appearance. Did it work? It is hard to say. But I know that whenever I was with him, people definitely seemed to clear a path.
