Reverse Phone Search and Other Tools for Dealing with Bad Calls

We’ve all received a phone call that was a little bit unnerving. Sometimes it’s just that an unlisted phone number turns up on our "missed calls" list. Other times we receive hang-up calls or even threatening calls and can’t identify the source. This is something that can make you feel frightened and powerless.

Here are some tools that you can use to get your sense of power back:

  • Reverse Phone Search. You can input the number into a database and find out who the caller is. Knowing your enemy is the first step in taking action against him or her. You can even use a cell phone reverse search in case the caller wasn’t on a landline when the call was placed.
  • Change your cell phone number. Try changing your number and see if the calls continue. If not, you’re probably safe from the caller; it was probably just a prank. If so, it’s probably someone that you know and you’re going to need to take more action.
  • Directness. If the calls happen more than once and the caller stays on the line, the main tool that you need is one that you already have within you. Be clear and direct and state to the caller that you’ll be taking action if the calls don’t stop.

In most cases, a missed call or even a hang-up doesn’t mean that we’re in any danger. However, it’s always best to err on the side of caution in protecting ourselves from others. Using the tools available to us, we can increase the power that we have to protect ourselves from harm.
