Using Fastpass at Disney World

There are lots of ways to make the most of your Disney World vacation.  One is to be sure you get an Orlando or Fort Lauderdale car rental — there are lots of rental car Orlando and other Florida locations.  Getting a car rental Orlando ensures that you will have the freedom to move about town, where you want and when you want.

Another way is to use Disney’s Fastpass.  The idea is fairly simple, really — you can either stand in line, or use Fastpass to "hold" your place in line while you head off to another ride.  However, if you want to get the most out of your Fastpass, it gets kind of tricky.  Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • You can only have one Fastpass at a time, technically.  If you get a Fastpass for a ride and it tells you to return at, say, 3pm, you’ll need to wait until after 3pm before you can get a Fastpass on another ride.  This isn’t too bad — you actually have a short window (usually an hour) to return to the ride, so you can get another Fastpass at 3:05 for another ride on your way back to the original ride.  This may allow you to ride one after another, if you plan it right.
  • Sometimes the Fastpass isn’t worth it.  If you can’t come back for several hours, that means you’ll be waiting in lines at all the other rides until you use that one Fastpass you just got at the ride with the really long wait.  Is it really worth it?  Maybe, but that decision won’t be the same for everyone.
  • Fastpass doesn’t substitute for showing up early in the morning.  You’ll still find the shortest wait times early in the morning, before the crowd arrives.  If you know that several of the rides you want to visit are really popular, you should be sure to get there early!
