What I Know About Cheap Oil Changes

I used to work at an aftermarket auto parts store, so I learned a lot about the kinds of problems car owners came in to get parts for.  What was really disturbing was the number of people who came in complaining that some quick lube place has stripped out their oil drain plug and didn’t tell them, leaving them to find out when it leaked or when they went to change their oil themselves the next time.

There are many reasons not to use a quick lube place to get your oil changed instead of taking it to a real Houston auto repair shop.  Probably the biggest reason is that their lack of experienced employees, and the time pressure put on them, makes these kinds of horror stories more common than you’d expect.  I knew a guy once who worked at one of these places, and he was so clueless about cars that they actually had to draw him a diagram of which way to turn the oil drain plug to tighten and loosen it!

Another problem is that many quick lube shops use power tools.  It’s really easy to strip out an oil drain plug when you’re using power tools on a hot engine, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing.  As a result, many customers unknowingly leave with new problems that can cost them a lot of money down the road.

If you don’t want to risk problems like these, I highly suggest you look into taking your car to one of the auto repair shops in your area instead.  There, you’ll always know that you can get an oil change Houston style, which means getting quality and value that you can count on.
